Melrose Arch, Johannesburg’s premier mixed-use precinct, is making a real impact through its unwavering commitment to community upliftment and sustainability. Owned by the Amdec Group, the precinct has spent the past year actively supporting charitable organisations and driving initiatives that create meaningful, long-lasting change.

By prioritising both social and environmental well-being, Melrose Arch continues to champion responsible consumption, waste reduction, renewable energy, and ethical business practices.

A Commitment to Making a Difference

"Supporting and uplifting our community is not just something we do—it’s who we are," says Khanyi Moyo, Marketing Manager at Melrose Arch.
"We have built a sustainable corporate social investment ecosystem that nurtures community-driven initiatives and events, allowing us to contribute to the greater good while fostering a sense of purpose and connection. Through our CSI programs, we provide essential goods and services that address societal needs, ultimately improving the quality of life for all. Our dedication to upliftment and empowerment will only grow stronger in the year ahead."

Corporate Social Investment: Changing Lives One Initiative at a Time

In 2024, Melrose Arch sponsored and championed several impactful CSI campaigns, offering financial and material support to various beneficiaries. The precinct’s beloved Carols on the Piazza concert raised R108,706, split equally between the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind—helping individuals with visual, physical, or developmental needs—and Cornelle Leach, who is undergoing electro-stimulation therapy to restore her vision.

Beyond fundraising, Melrose Arch continued its hands-on approach to community upliftment. The Childhood Roads Institute received Disney plush toys, SA Harvest donated nutritious food buckets, and the Marriott Hotel Johannesburg contributed linen. Additionally, Melrose Arch provided complimentary activation space valued at R160,000 for a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness initiative.

The precinct’s generosity extended to The Lighthouse Baby Shelter, which received 50 Disney plush toys, and the Look Forward Creativity Shelter, which benefited from R9,000 worth of stationery for its developmental programs. Compass, a non-profit supporting abused and abandoned women and children, received linen from Marriott Hotel Johannesburg and 100 nutrition buckets from SA Harvest worth R50,000. Meanwhile, the Changing Lives Charity Organisation, which focuses on early childhood development and youth empowerment, was supplied with R24,000 worth of sanitary pads, tampons, and wipes.

Melrose Arch also supported the Community Police Forum (CPF) by donating Disney plush toys to be used for victim support at Norwood SAPS and the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses unit. These toys provide comfort to distressed children, helping them navigate their emotional trauma.

Driving Sustainability with Innovation

Melrose Arch’s dedication to community upliftment aligns with its broader mission of environmental responsibility. The precinct prioritises sustainability through innovative initiatives that minimise environmental impact.

A cutting-edge 7,811-panel, 3.2 MW solar system generates renewable energy, while an advanced potable water system and cooling plant optimises resource efficiency. On-site waste sorting ensures responsible recycling, while 700 trees and urban green spaces enhance biodiversity and improve air quality in Johannesburg.

Furthering its sustainability efforts, Melrose Arch’s underground super-basement, which connects all areas of the precinct, significantly reduces traffic congestion and lowers above-ground pollution levels. This design creates a cleaner, more efficient environment for businesses, residents, and visitors.

Shaping a Sustainable Future

Melrose Arch continues to set the benchmark for responsible corporate citizenship, proving that businesses can drive positive change in both society and the environment. As the precinct looks ahead, its commitment to social impact and sustainability remains stronger than ever, contributing to a brighter, greener, and more inclusive South Africa.
